Chapter 6

Saben slashed one, making its head rip off of its body. He tried to keep from frowning.

Soon the zombies were sprayed on the ground, unmoving. "C'mon. Let's go explore it."

He nodded. He moved forward, taking a small peak inside the shack. It seemed cold and empty.

Crimson pulled a lighter out of her jacket pocket and walked into the shack. The only thing she saw were stairs. "I guess it's under ground." she told him.

"Yeah..." he said, testing the stairs with an experimental step.

Crimson waited for his experiment to be over. She had a smile on her face but it was hidden by the helmet she forgot to take off.

He started going down the stairs, crowbar in hand. He was too tired for chances.

Crimson ran and put her helmet away. She shut the door behind her. She guessed you couldn't open it from the outside. She went back to Saben.

Saben slowly looked around as he reached the bottom. He couldn't believe it. They were all zombified?

Crimson got down to the bottom. "I guess they are all gone." she told him, as if reading his mind.

He sighed and sat down against a wall. "I can't believe it..."

Crimson sighed. "Well me can't just stay sitting in the dark." she responded. She felt around the wall until she found a light switch. She flipped it and florescent lights came to life, showing blood everywhere.

He blinked. "Uh..." he began awkwardly.

Crimson sighed. "Yeah... They are dead." she said.

He sighed again. He got up and began poking around the room. "Do you think that they left anything of value?"

"Maybe." Crimson responded. She walked closer to the sides. Without the blood the refuge would resemble a hospital for the most part. Everything had been painted white.

The blood stains were disturbing. "So... what are we going to do now?" he asked quietly.

"I guess we could use this place." Crimson suggested. "Just clean up the blood a bit and stuff."

He nodded with a small smile. "Do you think this is safe enough? I mean..." he looked around slowly.

"I think so. Maybe someone forgot to close the door and the zombies got in." she told him.

"Probably." he said. He had forgotten about his exhaustion, but it was starting come back to him.

"I'm going to get my bike. You can start trying to find something to clean this place up." Crimson told him. She went up the stairs, leaving him alone.

Saben nodded. He cast a worried glance at her before setting about his new task, looking for a rag of some sort.

Crimson went outside, she kept the door open with a rock and grabbed her bike. She wheeled it into the shack, running over zombie corpses in the process. She went to go kick the rock out of the doorway when she noticed a mess of zombies coming. She grabbed her helmet and pulled it on. Things were gonna get messy.

Saben didn't hear anything. He started to crawl on his hands and knees. The place seemed to be empty. He then looked at a closet. "There must be something in there." he thought aloud. He grabbed the door knob when he realized it was locked. He picked up his crowbar by the wall and slowly walked towards the door again. He had a bad feeling in his stomach.
