Chapter 5

She nodded. "Yours too." she looked around. "Um... So what do you want to do?"

He smiled. "I don't really know." he admitted. "Is there anything you want to do?" he asked.

"I haven't really been around anybody since the apocalypse hit my town. I don't really know what to say." Crimson gave a nervous smile.

"You and I both." he replied.

"Um... How about we just get to know each other?" Crimson asked.

"Yeah, let's do that." he said with a smile. "So... what was your life like before all this?" he asked.

Crimson laughed. "It was okay. My dad taught me how to ride the bike when I was younger and they got me into baseball so I'd stay out of bad groups. What about you?" she asked.

"It was good I guess." Saben began. "I kind of just kept to myself. It was a laid back life style." he said with a soft smile.

Crimson nodded softly. "And you had this laid back life style where?"

"I lived in Des Moines Washington. What about you?" he asked back.

"Waynesville, Ohio." Crimson told him.

He nodded. "Did you like baseball?" he asked.

Crimson nodded. "It was alright. I got my anger out when I played. I was a very good hitter." She told him.

"I'm sure." he said with a laugh, referring to the zombie that she saved him from.

Crimson nodded. "My uncle taught me about explosives... That is before he got sent to jail."

"Jail? What for?" he asked.

"Blowing up a house." Crimson said simply.

"I see." he said in understanding. "Lovely."

Crimson nodded and yawned. "I'm still tired."

"Then go to bed." he said with a small smile. "You wouldn't want to be tired when we get into St. Louis, would you?"

Crimson shrugged and laid back on the couch. "You better get some sleep too." she said before closing her eyes.

He sighed. "Yeah." he laid down on the floor, gazing at the ceiling. St. Louis was coming. He was finally going to get there after a year of wandering. He sighed with relief and closed his eyes.

Crimson screamed. She quickly pulled on her leather jacket. Zombies were pushing at the door. The movement of the couch awoken her.

Saben jolted awake. He picked up his crowbar and advanced slowly, twirling it. "No..." he cursed under his breath before he pushed bad thoughts out of his mind. Can they get through? he asked himself.

"We gotta move. NOW!" Crimson told him. She packed up the rest of what they had in the saddle bag and put her helmet on. "Get your coat on." She told him, grabbing her bat from the ground. "I'm ready for you. Come and get me." she told the zombies as their arms were protruding from the doorway. She pulled down the tinted eye protector.
