Chapter 12

FUCK! he thought. "I'm sure it was nothing..."

The skateboard noisily ran through and hit the wall. Saben grit his teeth and rolled over.

"Are you sure?" Crimson looked down at him, her face full of worry. "Maybe something happened to Saben..."

"Saben can deal with it himself." Damien replied.

Saben felt something wet on his back. He looked where he fell and saw the crowbar. "So stupid... Why would I keep the crowbar there..." he said, rummaging through the closet, trying to find clothes and a medical kit. A bunch of sweater vests and a cane. He shifted through more piles to find a white box. He opened it and took out the gauss.

Crimson got off him. "No... No... I should go see what's wrong. I'll be right back." She stood on the floor and raced to Saben's room, her bare feet made thudding noises. She opened the door. "Saben!?"

Saben looked at her. "What? Is something wrong?" he asked urgently. He was holding the bloody crowbar in one hand.

"WHAT DID YOU DO TO YOURSELF!" Crimson screamed. She kneeled beside him. "Saben..." she groaned.

"Just a little accident..." he replied.

"See? You can't take care of yourself!" Crimson stated. She looked at his back. "Oh my..."

Saben turned his back away from her. "Maybe I can't." he admitted. "It's not that bad."

"If it went any deeper it could have hit your spine!" Crimson said.

"You should just go back to bed. I was probably interrupting something." Saben mumbled. "I'll be fine."

"Saben... Let me help you at least." Crimson took an antibacterial wipe from the kit and wiped down the wound.

"It's fine, really." Saben reassured her.

"No Saben!" Crimson said. "Why did you do this?"

"It was an accident." Saben said.

"How did this happen?" She looked at the skateboard. "Why...?"

"I tried to learn how to ride it." Saben said. "I wanted to see if I could do it."

"And the crowbar? Saben... Please don't do that again!" Crimson hugged him.

"It didn't hurt compared to some other... Things." Saben said, hugging her back. "Don't worry about me."

"Saben I can't help but worry about you." Crimson said, tears forming in her eyes.

Saben closed his eyes. "I don't want you worrying about me." he whispered.

"Why?" Crimson asked softly.

"Because I don't want you to be worried everytime I screw up. I do that all the time." he replied softly. "I'm probably just interrupting something anyways..." he said.

"Nothing is more important than helping you." Crimson spoke softly.

Damien appeared in the doorway, watching curiously.

"That's not true." Saben replied in a whisper.
